When exporting a video, one of the most important considerations is where you’re going to be hosting it. And with that comes video size limitations. Because videos can be big. They can be huge, clunky files, and the higher the quality the bigger the file size. But there are some ways you can tweak the export settings to reduce the video file size and make it easier to stream or fit on a hard drive. Read on to find out how.

  1. Install VideoStudio

    To install VideoStudio video editing software on your PC, download and run the installation file above. Continue following on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.

  2. Finish editing your video and prepare to export

    When you are done editing your video on your timeline, we can control the file size upon exporting video. With your video on your timeline, open the Share tab to export video.

  3. Control export settings

    Under the first menu, we can select the file format we wish our video to be (MPEG, WMV, AVI etc.). Under the properties of each file type, we can can control the file size and reduce video size to create a smaller video file under the Profile dropdown menu.

    To reduce a video file size and compress video, select the profile dropdown. Here you can select the file resolution (720x480, 1080x1920), the frame rate (30p, 60p) and more. As a general rule of thumb, the smaller the numbers the smaller the file size. When you select a profile, VideoStudio offers a short description for you for what this file size is good for (ex. Ideal for storing on discs, recommended for playback on TV or computers).

  4. Export video

    On the right hand side below the preview window, there is an indicator that provides the estimated output size of your video to give you a preview of the video file size upon export. Once you find the profile that best fits your video, select start to export and render video.
